8th Grade Students Wrap Up Novels

Students at tables

Miss Champion’s 8th grade literacy students have been reading the novel, Stargirl, and participating in discussions over the novel. Students have the opportunity to sit in and answer two questions at the inner table, then move to the outside ring where they can listen to conversation. Students may come in and out of the inner table to answer questions, or ask questions about the characters and the novel.

Students also have the opportunity to read the dialogue of a character from the chapter. Not everyone is willing to participate in this, but there are some students who have a future in theater!

Miss Champion’s advanced 8th grade literacy students just finished reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. To review the novel, students played a few very competitive rounds of Quizlet live!

After reading this novel, students researched the pros and cons of certain Native American issues and presented them to the class. Students researched Native American casinos, restitution for land, controversial mascots, or boarding schools on Native American reservations.

The advanced students will finish off the year reading The House on Mango Street and writing their own vignettes in a similar style of the book.
