MHSAP Career Club: KGAN Tour

Last week MHSAP Middle School students, along with Mrs. Anderson and their parents, toured the KGAN studios. We toured the newsroom, the studio, the control room, and more! We talked with several staff including news director Kristen Hamilton and meteorologist Rebecca Kopelman. We learned about the diverse jobs that comprise KGAN. Throughout the tour staff provided answers to questions including: What kinds of classes did you take in high school? Did you go to college and what was your major? What kind of strengths help you do your job well? When does your day start, what does it involve, and how long is your shift? Where do you buy your clothes? Who does your make-up? What do you like about your job? How long have you worked here? Where did your career begin and how did you get to KGAN? Students were surprised to learn some of the answers, and gained insight on how to plan high school if this is the career path they want to take. THANK YOU KGAN – this was a wonderful experience!!!

What is the MHSAP Career Club? Middle school students at MHSAP have monthly opportunities to explore a variety of careers through on-site visits, career speakers, and more. Students met in September and completed a career interest inventory and based on their responses Mrs. Anderson has been organizing opportunities for students and their parents to explore the careers students indicated were of most interest to them. Students can participate more than one year and explore different careers each year. Parents or other adults are required to attend most events and additional family members are welcome to participate. Would you like to learn more or get your student involved? Although sign up for this year’s Career Club has closed, there are opportunities that are open to all MHSAP Middle School students. Contact Mrs. Anderson if you’d like to know how you can be a part of the events or keep an eye on the weekly email Memo and our monthly Pursuit Newsletter for upcoming opportunities!
