MHSAP Career Exploration

Last week 9th grade MHSAP students explored the Career Inspire event at the Alliant Power House in Cedar Rapids.

Before the event students had access to curriculum that allowed them to pinpoint which career paths might be a good fit and then connect with professionals in those fields at Career Inspire. Our students explored interactive booths in agricultural fields, business, marketing, medical, dental, manufacturing, trucking, trades, audio/video and more! Exhibits allowed students to practice the Heimlich maneuver, see a human brain, watch how oats are milled and used in the products we get at the grocery store. They experimented with high-end professional audio/video equipment, virtual reality, raced against each other to drive nails, and even met the bomb squad team and their explosive detection dog! If your student didn’t get an opportunity to attend, but would like to explore career possibilities, have them take the Career Interest Inventory: https://career.ja.org/cii and keep this event in mind for next year!

THANK YOU Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa for an inspirational morning and for all those that volunteered their time and effort to come and share the amazing things you all do! It was phenomenal!
