MHSAP Enrichment Classes are off to another amazing start this year!
The Exploring the Outdoors class (pictured), designed for grades 3-5, started the year at Wickiup Hill Learning Center. It was an amazing day of outdoor exploration. We set out on a 'bird hike' but didn't get very far as there was SO much to see, hear and learn about. We saw pelicans flying overhead - flap, flap, flap, glide; heard the call of the blue jay, learned that vultures migrate and how their wings look in the sky.
There were many hummingbirds flying over the jewel weed and even saw some territorial battles. These birds will likely migrate to South America - that means going over the Gulf of Mexico! (If you have a student in the class, ask your student about his beak.) We heard the mourning dove, marveled at the yellow garden spiders (like in Charlotte's Web) and saw the floating duckweed along with the muskrat who moved too quickly for some to catch. We learned about white oak vs red oak trees. And so much more! We'll plan on ice fishing or something winter related on January 14, when we meet again. (Watch your email because it will probably be a different park.)
I think your student would enjoy taking the whole family to Wickiup Hill and showing you around. It's all free, even the indoor exhibits.
