Garbage Truck

In P.E., students are participating in an activity that incorporates teamwork and keeping the environment clean. They are doing this by playing a game called “Garbage Truck”. Students begin by discussing what Marion would look and smell like if we didn’t have garbage cans, garbage trucks, or landfills. Then, students discuss how it requires teamwork to keep our environment clean. After this discussion on the topic, the students get to play the game. Mr. Haag throws “garbage” (P.E. equipment) all around the gym floor and emphasizes how damaging this is to the environment.

When playing this game, students get with a partner, and one partner is the “truck” and sits on two connected scooters, while the other is the “driver” who pushes the truck around to pick up the “garbage”.

The goal is for the “truck” to pick up as much garbage as they can and return it to the “recycling center” where the garbage is sorted into containers.

The students then trade places and go out for another “load”. The game continues until all of the “garbage” is collected. At the conclusion, students talk about how it got easier to move around as the “garbage” started getting picked up and how much better the streets looked (and smelled!)
