Computer Science in action

This summer, Preschool–4th grade teachers at MISD took part in an exciting professional learning journey in computer science. Through a mix of online courses and in-person sessions, teachers explored creative ways to integrate computer science into literacy, math, social studies, science, and social-emotional learning.

At the Summer Institute, teachers also had the chance to deepen their understanding of computer science in the classroom and even got hands-on experience with the robots now available for student use. With these new tools and strategies, we are ready to bring computer science to life across our classrooms in meaningful ways!

And the learning has already begun—during the first week of school, our first graders had their very first coding experience of the year with BeeBots. Students programmed their BeeBots using teacher-provided codes and then discussed whether the behaviors their robots landed on were “expected” or “unexpected.” This is just the beginning of many exciting opportunities for our students to grow as problem solvers, thinkers, and creators through computer science.
