At our school, we’re fortunate to have an Instructional Coach whose role is centered on supporting both teachers and students. While classroom teachers focus on delivering instruction directly to their students, an Instructional Coach works alongside staff to strengthen teaching practices, reflect on learning, and make sure every student has the opportunity to succeed at high levels.
What does an Instructional Coach do?

Our coach’s role is supportive, not evaluative. The goal is always to be responsive to what teachers and students need most—whether that’s brainstorming strategies, co-teaching a lesson, analyzing student data, or simply being a thought partner.
One of the best parts of this position is the opportunity to build relationships with everyone in the building. Because the coach’s work takes them into many classrooms and across all grade levels, they get to know both staff and students very well. This makes the role not just about instruction, but also about fostering a strong sense of community.
