At Longfellow Elementary, kindness is more than just a word—it’s a way of life! This year, our Kindness Krew is leading the charge in spreading positivity and helping others throughout our school.
Second grade students are nominated by their teachers to join the Kindness Krew for showing kindness, leadership, and living “The Marion Way.” There are three rounds of Kindness Krew each year--during second, third, and fourth quarters. Our first group of Krew members began their journey in October, and they’ve already made a big impact!
Each Monday, Kindness Krew members enjoy lunch with Mrs. Zaruba and Miss Haag, where they talk about kindness, leadership, and ways to make Longfellow an even better place. Throughout the week, members take on daily jobs like collecting recycling, greeting students as they come into school, returning lunch cards to classrooms, or taking the “no thank you” cart to the lunchroom. Each group also takes on other duties as needed during their quarter like helping with our Holiday Giving Project by collecting, sorting, and boxing up food donations from students.
Every Kindness Krew also takes on a Kindness Project of their own choosing. This quarter’s group will be making and delivering holiday cheer to local police, fire, and hospital staff. We are excited as this is our first Kindness Project in our 3 years of the program that will go outside of the Longfellow walls!
The Kindness Krew truly makes Longfellow shine—and we are so proud of the way they lead with heart!
