MISD adopted a new reading curriculum this year called CKLA Amplify. In Kindergarten through 2nd grade, Amplify is composed of 2 strands: Skills and Knowledge. Skills is instruction in foundational reading skills like phonemic awareness, phonics, and grammar, as well as writing. Knowledge is composed of complex read alouds that provide students with background knowledge of a variety of topics, along with vocabulary and listening and speaking skills.
Second grade wrapped up their first knowledge unit on Fairy Tales and Tall Tales with an Extravaganza! Students (and teachers) dressed as their favorite fairy tale or tall tale character and watched Paul Bunyan while feasting on pancakes!
