💛
In 3rd and 4th grade, math fact fluency makes a HUGE difference.
When students automatically know their math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), their brains are free to focus on problem solving instead of getting stuck on basic calculations. They can think about strategies, multi-step problems, and real-world applications without their working memory being overloaded. This is called reducing cognitive load—when the basics are automatic, the brain has more space for higher-level thinking.
✨ What helps at home?
• 5–10 minutes of daily math fact practice
• Quick review of flashcards or fact games
Fluency isn’t about speed alone—it’s about confidence, accuracy, and freeing up brain power for big thinking.
