Spring is upon us which means our 4th grade TAG students are culminating their year-long study of our national parks with a field trip to Effigy Mounds National Monument and preparing exhibits to demonstrate their learning. This year's field trip will happen on Tuesday, May 5. In addition to visiting Effigy Mounds National Monument, students will also visit the Driftless Area Education and Visitor Center in Lansing, Iowa. This visitor center is housed in a building designed by Marion High School alum, Kyle Martin, who is a local architect. They will also hike through Effigy Mounds with Ranger Brian to learn about the native people who once inhabited the area, the mounds they left behind, and the various flora and fauna that make the monument special. On Tuesday, May 26, FMI students and staff will be invited to visit the FMI National Park Visitor Center to learn about all that the fourth grade students have learned through class projects, small group projects and individual research projects. 4th grade student families will be able to view the students' hard work after school that same day from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
