Please welcome our new special education BD/LD teacher, Ashley Studt. She is from Cedar Rapids, IA. This is her first year teaching. She graduated from Kennedy in 2005, graduated from Northwestern in 2009 with a BA in Psychology, graduated in 2011 with a MS in Clinical Counseling at Columbia International University. She then got her certification in Applied Behavior Analysis in 2014, and then went back to school to get her teaching license this past year. After she stayed home with her two daughters, she decided to work at a school as a paraprofessional. During her time at the school, she was encouraged to get her license. A few months later she was in school taking classes in order to obtain a teaching license. Why did you choose to work at a middle school?: To be honest, I never thought I would teach at a middle school. In my head I thought I would be teaching earlier grades K-2. I came to interview for the special education position and it felt right teaching here. I can say that I enjoy teaching here. We have a great community of teachers that are supportive of one another. A little bit about her: I am a mother of two daughters who keep me busy and a military spouse. I have a Blue Heeler-Border Collie named Oliver. I love coffee and chocolate! Interesting Fact: I was born Georgia and lived in South Carolina for a few years.

Please welcome our new 5th grade special education teacher, Allison Estal. She is originally from Dubuque, IA. She graduated from the University of Dubuque. This is her 6th year teaching special education. She has taught grades K-8 in a variety of different positions but most of her experience is working with students in 5th/6th grade. She decided to go into teaching because she enjoys working with kids and helping them reach their goals. She loves special education because she is able to support and motivate students who struggle academically to make growth towards their goals and be the best learners they can be! She chose to work at a middle school because she loves this age group because they are learning more complex content but they are also still at that age where they want to please their teachers and do their best. She moved to the Cedar Rapids area this past summer because her fiance is from this area. She has two kids, a ten-year old girl and one-year old boy. She has two dogs and enjoys doing anything outdoors when the weather is nice. Fun Fact: I grew up with a dad who loves cars and racing so when I was younger I had a Junior Dragster and would drag race at a track in Earlville, IA.
