Computer Science teacher, Mr. Mueller had this to share about his 7th grade class: “7th grade students are learning about Interactive Animations and Games. This is part of Code.org's Computer Science Discoveries Curriculum. These ladies did an amazing job creating Interactive Valentines Cards with code. Some of the ideas included; Heart Beets (the vegetable) and Donut Know How I Would Live Without You. I'm very proud of my students creations. It's results like this that make teaching one of the best careers. Thank you VMS students.”

5th grade students in Mr. Kenny’s computer science classes reviewed internet safety by using Quizlet Live and also playing a trivia game. The teams could earn extra points if they were able to make a hole in one. #vmsinspire

Imagine being a published illustrator at age 13! 8th grader Sophia L. shared her illustrations for the book Edsel Peck in the Rusted Empire by her father. The drawings very strongly resemble aquatint etching, a type of printmaking technique. There are more great things to come for Sophia- we are thrilled at her talent. #vmsinspire

Please welcome our new 7th/8th grade social studies teacher, Eric Reents. He is originally from Naperville, IL. He has a degree to teach physical education but he has experience teaching P.E, special education and now social studies. He went to school at Iowa State University. He went to school for education because he always has enjoyed interacting with others and taking part in the process of learning/teaching new things. Combine that with his interest of exercise science and Physical Education just made sense.
He decided to work with middle school students because he views PE as an extremely important thing to make part of a student's life. When these healthy habits are created early in life, it can lead to a much healthier outcome. This is the main reason he chose to focus on the middle school grade levels.
He lives in Marion with his wife and son, Christopher. Christopher turned two this summer and loves to run around and say "hi" to their three cats. Over the past six or so months he has discovered a passion for woodworking. He loves finding little projects that he can take on to add a little style to their home and to get some practice improving his skills.
Fun Fact: We have three cats at home: Toby, Tabitha and Teddy. The last one, Teddy, we actually just got over the summer. My wife was out on a walk and actually pulled him out of a storm drain on the road! Because of that, we like to call him "Sewer Cat". He is extremely sweet and loves sitting on my shoulder while I am relaxing. He gets along so well with my son Christopher and frequently meows at him asking to be pet.

Mrs. Hale’s 7th grade artists made her promise to not have pictures of their clay gingerbread houses posted until after Christmas, because so many were planned as gifts. #vmsinspire

Here are a few sneak peeks of a new mural our 8th grade artists are creating. Inspired by ideals of the Green Bandana club, which promotes inclusion and community, they were encouraged to brainstorm common things that bring joy to their lives. There’s so much more to be drawn on the wall but kids were motivated to put a few splashes of color on it. #vmsinspire

Students in Mr. Reents’ 8th grade social studies classes created their own board games along with questions from their most recent chapter from the textbook. #vmsinspire

Art in any form is an expression or application of human creativity, skill, and imagination. 8th grade artist Nora K. speaks in whispers, but her work is a powerful proclamation of effort and resolve. With some new techniques tailored to foster her strengths, Nora created this beautiful self portrait. #vmsinspire
