Kindergarteners in KB have been learning that shapes are EVERYWHERE! Today in math they went on a shape hunt around the school. Students drew clocks, lockers, stop signs, and a lot of other shaped objects they saw. When they got back to the classroom they shared with their classmates the things that they drew. #lesinspire

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Pflughaupt’s class practiced segmenting and blending sounds in a fun, hands-on way today! By tossing a beach ball with words on it, students stretched the sounds and blended them together to read each word. This playful activity helped build early reading skills while keeping learning active and engaging. We’re so proud of their growing confidence as readers! #lesinspire

Mrs. Beckner’s mathematicians worked on comparing numbers by playing the game Top-It. Each player turns over a number card and decides which one is bigger. The person with the bigger number gets to keep the cards. They used math language like: greater, less than, more, fewer, higher, and lower. What a fun and easy way to practice! #lesinspire

One of the key components of PBIS is positive recognition. At Longfellow, we use our assemblies to celebrate students and classrooms for showing The Marion Way. Here are a few highlights from this month’s assembly: • The Kindness Crew led us in The Marion Way and the Longfellow song. • Students learned we met our quiet hallway goal, earning a whole-school coloring party in the gym. • VIPs were recognized for showing The Marion Way. • Paw prints were drawn from each grade level, and students played Plinko to earn classroom rewards: KB and 1K earned a Dress-Up Day, and 2S earned an extra recess. • We wrapped up by revealing our Secret Teacher and the winning classroom. Congratulations to Mr. H’s class for doing a great job showing assembly expectations! #lesinspire

It was a big day at Longfellow! The preschool classes went caroling at local nursing homes today. They had so much fun spreading holiday cheer! The Kindness Krew completed their big project for the quarter by delivering their holiday cards along with cookies and candy to the Marion Police Department, Fire Department, and Mercy ER. For their big project, they chose to spread holiday cheer with those who help our community. As a reward for far surpassing our the goal for the Parent Group Fundraiser, the students earned an Inflatable Day today! Each grade level had their own time to jump, jump, jump! The class who raised the most money got to have their own private jump time! Congratulations to Mr. H's class for earning that reward! #lesinspire
