We’re wishing a wonderful Mother’s Day to all the moms in our community! 💐 #MISDInspire #MISDOwnYourFuture

Mrs. Tank’s second graders took a field trip to Indian Creek Nature Center on this gorgeous Friday! ☀️ ❤️ They were able to take a look at some native animals up close 🐸🐢 and take a nature walk to observe various plants and insects. They ended the trip with some well-deserved play time. ☺️

Even though Staff Appreciation Week has come to an end, we appreciate our staff every day of the year! It's always cool to reach out and thank a staff member! #MISDinspire #MISDOwnYourFuture

It’s chick days in Mrs. Beckner’s room! The students were SO excited to see that 7 chicks hatched overnight! So far we have 11 chicks and are waiting on one more to hatch. It’s been amazing learning all about chickens this last month, and to see the excitement on the students faces on hatch day was priceless! #lesinspire

Our first graders have been diving into fairy tales as part of their CKLA Knowledge unit! 📚✨ Some class favorites include Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, and The Frog Prince.
After reading, students partnered up to bring these stories to life in a hands-on way. Using BeeBots, they coded a path to sequence key events—from beginning to middle to end—while taking turns retelling each part of the story along the way.
It’s been so exciting to see their creativity, teamwork, and storytelling skills in action! 🐝💡 #lesinspire

Kindergarten started their ABC countdown today with “Aloha Day”. Mrs. Beckner’s class had fun learning how to hula! #lesinspire

What do you do when your students raise the most they have ever raised in the Kids Heart Challenge? Why you kiss a pig of course! The challenge was just for Mr. Meth to kiss the pig, but with a total of $7,639.50 the kids deserved more! Thanks to so many staff members (and even some guest teachers) for stepping up for our kids! This isn't even everyone because the staff was volunteering so fast, we couldn't keep up with the pictures! #lesinspire

Second graders began researching this week for an informational narrative piece to go along with their knowledge unit on Insects. ✍️ Each author is writing from the point of view of an insect, sharing information about their habitat, food source 🌸, and whether they are a social 🐝 🐜 or a solitary insect. ☺️ #lesinspire

April is School Library Month! In celebration students can create a bookmark. The template below was sent home this week with your child for them to create their bookmark on and send back to school. Bookmarks are due back by April 24th.
Here is some Longfellow Library trivia:
7,519 books in the library
7,033 circulations this year
Here's what we are reading this year at Longfellow:
Dog Man and Cat Kid (8 of our top 10 titles are either Dog Man or Cat Kid. We are huge fans!)
Nonfiction- especially Animal Battles (317 circulations) and NFL Team Profiles (171 circulations)
Goldfinch Award Books: Giraffe is Too Tall for this Book and How Dinosaurs Went Extinct: A Safety Guide are two of our favorites.
Special shout out to Mrs. Tank's class for the most circulations so far this year. As of this week, they have checked out 838 books! #lesinspire

Kindergarten students just completed a CKLA Knowledge Unit on Colonial Towns and Townspeople. For their culminating activity, Mrs. Beckner’s class made butter! They realized just how hard people had to work back in colonial times and that hard work pays off! It was all thumbs up when they were able to enjoy the fruits of their labor! #lesinspire

First Graders took a trip to Culver's Garden Center to learn about how plants grow. They can use their knowledge learned to help them care for the plants they are growing in the classroom during their current science unit! The students enjoyed exploring the different greenhouses and learning about different jobs that are done to care for the many plants. Did you know they have 14 greenhouses and over 100,000 plants there?! #lesinspire

Big learning starts with tiny seeds 🌱
Our first graders planted grass as part of their plants and animals science unit, discovering how plants grow and what they need to thrive. Watching their curiosity grow is the best part! 🌼 #lesinspire

Whoooooooo is creating some clay owls 🦉in #Art class? The second graders, that’s whooooooo! ☺️ #lesinspire
