2nd Graders in Mrs. Showalter’s room are learning about the human body in Knowledge. They did a jigsaw activity where they built a well balanced meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and took it back to their group to share!

Introducing the newest members of the second grade hallway: MEALWORMS! 👨‍🔬 The scientists in 2T have begun a new unit on Insects and Plants 🌱 that focuses on life cycles. Any ideas about the other stages of a mealworm’s life cycle? 🤔 Here’s a hint…🪲!

Mrs. Beckner’s class is working on number stories and writing an equation to represent it. Partners took turns telling the story, finding the answer, and writing the equation. #lesinspire

We had some exciting activities to kick off our spring break! On Thursday the Vernon Middle School jazz band and show choir came to perform for our students. On Friday the entire student body went bowling to celebrate reading 200,000 minutes at home so far this school year! School resumes tomorrow, and we cannot wait to see all their faces back in the halls and classrooms! #lesinspire

First graders have been learning about habitats around the world in CKLA Knowledge. So far they have learned about the Arctic Tundra, Sonoran Desert, East African Savanna, and the Temperate Deciduous Forest. For each habitat they learn about the climate, the ground covering, water sources, plants and animals that live there, and adaptations those plants and animals have made over time to be able to live there. They still have the Tropical Rain Forest, Fresh Water, and Salt Water habitats to learn about! #lesinspire

The second graders have been learning about the U.S. Civil War during their CKLA Knowledge time. Today they worked in teams on a “brain dump” activity to review and discuss what they’ve learned. #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork 😊 What do you remember learning about Harriet Tubman or Clara Barton? Do you remember which side General Lee or General Grant fought for? 🤔 You could always ask your favorite #secondgradeexpert for a tutorial! 🤓 #lesinspire

2nd Graders are comparing measurements using arm span, jumps, height and head size in our EDM math curriculum! #lesinspire

During CAPS lessons, our first and second graders are learning all about their social filter—what to say out loud and what to keep in their brain! Students practice sorting phrases and asking themselves four important questions: 1️⃣ Is it kind? 2️⃣ Is it helpful? 3️⃣ Is it true? 4️⃣ Is it the right time? We’re so proud of the thoughtful conversations and self-control skills they’re building every day! #lesinspire

Mrs. Beckner’s class wrapped up their CKLA Kings and Queens Unit with a Royal Tea Party. They had fancy cookies and tea (white grape juice)! Pinkies up! #lesinspire

Mrs. Beckner’s class has been having fun learning about kings and queens during their CKLA Knowledge time. Each day they have a different king and queen that get to wear a cape and crown, sit on a royal throne during instruction time, and get wheeled to specials in the royal chariot! They love when students and staff bow to them when they pass! #lesinspire

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT! LEARNING OLYMPICS! Your child will receive a "passport" upon arrival to take to all their "destinations". After visiting each destination and completing the activity, they will receive a stamp in their passport. After they have completed all of the activities and filled their passport, stop by the "gold medal stand" to get a gold medal and for a photo op on the winner's podium! Don't forget to check out our class flags in the "Olympic Village" (specials hallway)! When you're finished, hop on over to Your Pie to grab supper and support the Longfellow Parent Group. It promises to be a fun, family night! We hope to see you there! #lesinspire
