Kindergarten students in Mrs. Pflughaupt’s class practiced segmenting and blending sounds in a fun, hands-on way today! By tossing a beach ball with words on it, students stretched the sounds and blended them together to read each word. This playful activity helped build early reading skills while keeping learning active and engaging. We’re so proud of their growing confidence as readers! #lesinspire

We will not have school on Friday, January 23rd due to the cold weather warning. We will not have any morning activities. Evening activities for Friday will by made by noon on Friday as we monitor the cold weather warning. #StaySafe

Mrs. Beckner’s mathematicians worked on comparing numbers by playing the game Top-It. Each player turns over a number card and decides which one is bigger. The person with the bigger number gets to keep the cards. They used math language like: greater, less than, more, fewer, higher, and lower. What a fun and easy way to practice! #lesinspire

Nothing like a coloring party with friends to end an early-out day! K-2 students earned a coloring party by filling class paw pyramids by showing respect using the right voice level in the halls. ❤️🖍️☺️ #lesinspire

After our already planned early dismissal today, we will not have any afternoon or evening activities for students. Please see Marion Home School's communication about the MHSAP schedule for today.

The first graders got to do some special bird watching at recess Thursday when a bald eagle landed in one our trees and spent the whole recess there! It was a sight to see! #lesinspire

Preschool Sign Up for both Parkview & Longfellow Elementary Schools will be happening soon! Mark your calendars! We will have a Preschool Information Night on February 5th from 5:30pm to 6:00pm @ both Longfellow & Parkview Elementary Schools. Info: https://aptg.co/n95lYK #MISDOwnYourFuture

So many fun rewards happening at Longfellow today! From forts, to flashlights, to costumes, students were having a great time celebrating their positive behavior! #lesinspire

One of the key components of PBIS is positive recognition. At Longfellow, we use our assemblies to celebrate students and classrooms for showing The Marion Way. Here are a few highlights from this month’s assembly:
• The Kindness Crew led us in The Marion Way and the Longfellow song.
• Students learned we met our quiet hallway goal, earning a whole-school coloring party in the gym.
• VIPs were recognized for showing The Marion Way.
• Paw prints were drawn from each grade level, and students played Plinko to earn classroom rewards: KB and 1K earned a Dress-Up Day, and 2S earned an extra recess.
• We wrapped up by revealing
our Secret Teacher and the winning classroom. Congratulations to Mr. H’s class for doing a great job showing assembly expectations! #lesinspire

It's great to see our students back in 2026! #MISDOwnYourFuture #MISDinspire

It was a big day at Longfellow!
The preschool classes went caroling at local nursing homes today. They had so much fun spreading holiday cheer!
The Kindness Krew completed their big project for the quarter by delivering their holiday cards along with cookies and candy to the Marion Police Department, Fire Department, and Mercy ER. For their big project, they chose to spread holiday cheer with those who help our community.
As a reward for far surpassing our the goal for the Parent Group Fundraiser, the students earned an Inflatable Day today! Each grade level had their own time to jump, jump, jump! The class who raised the most money got to have their own private jump time! Congratulations to Mr. H's class for earning that reward!

Kindergarten students in KP are hard at work graphing our favorite colors. Students counted carefully and talked about which colors had more, less, or the same. We had fun building early data and math thinking skills. #lesinspire

REMINDER: There will be no school December 22 through January 2 for winter break. 🗓️

Mrs. Beckner’s class is learning about holidays around the world. After learning about Israel, Ms. Terri came in and taught the class about Hanukkah. They learned about the Menorah and Dreidels. At the end everyone had fun trying to spin different types of dreidels. #lesinspire
