
Meet Mrs. Freesmeier
*General Music Teacher
*This is my 11th year teaching music!
-Four years in Ohio, teaching middle and high school choir
-Two years teaching elementary general music and strings in Oregon
-Two years teaching general music practices and music psychology at UIowa
-Three years here with Marion, teaching general music at Longfellow and Vernon!
*When I am not at school, I love to go hiking, mountain biking and be with my family.
*I have a baby boy whose name is Parker and he is about to be 1!
*Fun Fact: I am an identical twin.

Meet Mrs. Kuethe
* Second grade teacher
*She is in her 33rd year of teaching!
*She has coached track at Vernon Middle School since 1992.
* She has been married to her husband, Jeff, for 31 years.
* Two sons and a daughter: Cole is a math teacher at Vernon Middle School, Trent is in supply chain management in Texas, and Lauren is a junior at UNI.
* Mrs. Kuethe became a grandmother in May!
*Free time: Mrs. Kuethe loves going on walks, playing piano, reading, baking, playing games, and being with her family and friends.



Meet Mrs. O'Brien
*Beginning 20th year in education
*Have taught special education and Kindergarten
*Beginning a new role as an Instructional Coach this year
*Live in Marion
*Husband: Chris
*Three daughters: Caitlyn (20), Ciara (15), and Cayleigh (13)
*Dog named Finn (2) - his sister is Mrs. Zaruba’s dog
*Our family enjoys playing games together
*Our kids are very active, so we spend lots of time watching a variety of sports and fine arts activities




Meet Mrs. Shie
-Reading Strategist at Longfellow
-31st year of teaching: Special Education in West Branch, Special Education at Vernon Middle School, Third grade at Emerson, and Reading at Emerson and Longfellow
-Her husband, Terry, is an electrical engineer. Her son, Alex (25), works as an electrical helper. Her daughter, Bailey (23), is in her last year of pharmacy school at Drake.
-She enjoys traveling, hiking and biking, reading, and spending time with family and friends.



2nd Graders are learning about biographies in Library class. They're creating outlines to follow when narrating their auto-biography in an app.



Kindergartners are learning about wordless picture books in Library class. Today they read Tuesday by David Wiesner. Then they created their own frog adventures using pictures.

Meet Mrs. Hoke
*Math Strategist at Longfellow and FMI
*20th year of teaching; 6th year as a Math Strategist; prior to that taught 6th grade math at Vernon Middle School
*Two step-sons: Robbie (14) and Daniel (12) with husband Sean
*Dog mom to Oscar (13.5)
*Mrs. Hoke loves to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings, as well as her stepsons as they compete in cross country, soccer, show choir, and track.
*Fun fact: Mrs. Hoke spent two summers living in Seoul, South Korea as a camp counselor and swim instructor for children whose parents were in the military and stationed overseas.

Meet Mrs. Harmer
*This is my 11th year as a principal at Emerson and Longfellow.
*I previously taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades at Linn-Mar.
*I am married to Adam (who is a PE teacher in Cedar Rapids) and have a daughter, Kennedy (3). We also have a Golden Retriever named Charlie.
*I love to travel (the beach is our favorite) and go to new places and spend time with family and friends!
*We love the Iowa Hawkeyes!



We will have a 2 hr delay on Friday, February 17th. There will be no AM preschool and no morning activities.
