Marion High School has always been known for its strong athletic programs, and this spring was a testament to that notion. The boys’ track team, girls’ track team, boys’ soccer team, and boys’ golf team were all represented at their respective state tournaments. WaMaC Titles were won by the boys’ golf team and both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams.
The pinnacle moment of the girls' track season came on “The Blue Oval” at Drake College during the State meet, when the Sprint Medley Relay, consisting of Bristol Beachler, Kendyl Aarhus, Abby Cave, and Hayden Dietz, set a school record and won a state championship with a record of 1:46.46. The Distance Medley Relay of Bristol Beachler, Kendly Aarhus, Hayden Dietz, and Addison Dabroski placed second with a school record of 4:01.74. Other members of the team that qualified for the state meet were Avery Case, Emerson Dabroski, and Imari Michaels, making it one of the largest groups of student-athletes to participate at a state meet in recent years.
On the soccer pitch, the girls’ soccer team finished 4-1 in the WaMaC East and 7-2-2 in the entirety of the WaMaC. This is only the third WaMaC title in school history and the first in six seasons. The boys’ soccer team compiled an undefeated record in the WaMaC at 11-0 and qualified for the State tournament for an unprecedented fifth time in six years.
The boys’ golf team had one of its most successful seasons in school history, winning both its sectional and district meets. At the state tournament, the boys finished sixth overall, with junior Grady Oleson shooting an even par score, good for second place. The team was led by Oleson, as well as Calvin Andresen, Asher Castenson, Jackson Rinderknecht, Jake Skogman, Tyler Tumilty, and Tyler Tumilty.
Congratulations to all of the athletes and coaches on fantastic seasons and now... we're on to summer!
