Marion High School senior Robert Cross was in attendance yesterday at the ribbon-cutting session for the Old Train Terminal Signal in Draper Park. Draper Park, Marion's first "Pocket Park", is situated south of the Marion American Legion at 625 31st Street SE. Draper Park, along with numerous other features, pays homage to Marion's rich history of railway travel. Robert works through Barnes Manufacturing, which partners with Marion High School's MOC program. Robert helped rebuild the entire train signal seen near the front of the park.
At MHS, relevance is one of the core tenets of "The Marion Way". Robert is a great example of how MHS students have used their opportunities within the district to parlay their individual interests into real-world opportunities.
Stop by Marion's first "Pocket Park", Draper Park, and experience not only the rich history of our town, but hear it as well, when the train signal reminds the community of traveling trains of the past.
